For 75 years, Camp Hurlburt, situated on 2.5 acres of Okanagan Lake beachfront within the city of Vernon, has been a place for young people to gather to camp and explore their faith with others.
Camp Hurlburt was established in 1931 when Ase and Pamela Hurlburt purchased 2.5 acres of property on Okanagan Lake to create a camp for children of the North Okanagan. They had a vision. Thousands of children and youth have since benefited from their generosity and legacy. Trinity United Church has owned and operated the camp since 1939.
Camp Hurlburt has been a resource to the Vernon community in meeting social and spiritual needs. Local elementary schools and teachers provide names of children who might benefit from a Hurlburt camp experience and require financial assistance. |

| “I have recently retired after 32 years as a secondary school counselor in the Vernon School District. Many times over those years, I listened to young people talk of their experiences at Camp Hurlburt and what those experiences meant for them …When a student told me he/she was going to spend some time at Hurlburt that summer, I knew that student would come back to school inoculated against many of the forces which can destroy a young life. I thank Trinity United for being there for these young people, and hope Camp Hurlburt will continue to be for a long time.” |

Camp Hurlburt has consistently, effectively, and with humility built relationships with children and youth that have taught them about the sacredness of their own lives and God’s creation. Programming at the camp has provided unique and individualized methods of lesson-learning. We invite you to check out the Camp Hurlburt website.
We have also begun to listen carefully to that voice from the edge – the children and youth who participate in Camp Hurlburt programs. They are part of our circle of sacred relationships. Based on the lessons learned from the children and youth at Camp Hurlburt, we recognize a valuable resource where we can reach out to wide numbers of people of all ages who seek sacred relationships with themselves, with each other and with all of creation.
In order to continue to provide a venue where the Vision of the camp can be realized, the Rebuild Hurlburt project was put into faith action. |

Camp Hurlburt is a valuable community resource where investing in the lives of children and youth, children in need and young families, gives opportunity to grow personally and spiritually and have fun at the same time in a safe place – physical, emotional and spiritual. Hurlburt is where exploration and opportunities to face issues pertinent to their everyday lives, happens. |

The Camp’s goal is to provide positive role modelling and opportunities for young people to share their gifts.
The need to continue to offer these types of opportunities to campers of all ages, has been acknowledged by the community, past camp participants and camp counselors.
We envision an updated facility for the future – located in a natural setting - which will offer groups of peers both young and old; the opportunity to host events, retreats, meetings and special gatherings for families and community groups, right along side with the summer camps programs.
Join us in the Rebuild Hurlburt project so that more stories and life transforming experiences may happen through activities and events at Hurlburt. |
